Valtenesi by bike

A route to bike with the whole family, with no climbs or excessively challenging passages. Starting from Camping Village La Gardiola, one climbs the Valtenesi hills in the direction of Puegnago and Laghi di Sovenigo, small lakes surrounded by nature where Lotus flowers bloom. Following inland trails through vineyards and cultivated fields, one reaches the town of Polpenazze del Garda, whose historic center is dominated by the medieval castle of the same name. We continue on the main road where, in some sections, there is a wonderful view of Lake Garda, and reach the town of Soiano del Lago, a village whose history dates back to the Bronze Age. The main point of interest is the Castle erected on ruins from Roman times, which, situated on a hill, dominates the entire Valtenesi valley. Numerous events and concerts are held inside the castle during the summer period. The last stop on the itinerary at the southern end of the Valtenesi area is the town of Padenghe. The medieval castle, erected around the year 1000, retains almost its entire original structure and is believed to be the oldest in Valtenesi. In the center of Padenghe is Palazzo Barbieri of 18th-century origin with marvelous columns supporting the cross vaults of the atrium, which today houses the town hall. Every year in August, the historical re-enactment “Padenghe Medievale” takes place with costume parades, flag-wavers, falconers, street performers, jugglers and stilt-walkers and typical specialties.
