The Beaches of Palau

There are 21 beaches along the coast of Palau territory, most of which are easily accessible. Four are in the Gulf of Saline, where Camping Village Capo d’Orso is located: the Saline beach, which can be reached directly from the campsite, the Swedes beach (Cala Lepre), the Vena Longa beach (Portu Mannu), and the Cala Capra beach. Moving in a northerly direction one reaches the beaches of Palau Vecchio and Porto Faro in Palau and continuing on to Cala Inglese in Porto Rafael, the beach of Porto Puddu (Porto Pollo) and Cala Liscia.

Palau Vecchio Beach

The charming ochre-colored beach of Palau Vecchio is bordered by Pineta and a long promenade. It is located in the center of Palau, along the old railroad tracks, and is easily accessible. Due to the fine sand and shallow seabed, it is a suitable beach for children.

Porto Faro Beach

Porto Faro beach, with its white sand contrasting with the Mediterranean scrub that almost laps the sea, is certainly one of the most beautiful in the area. Although it is located in the town of Palau, it is not a very busy beach, so it is a must-see destination for those seeking some peace and quiet.

Porto Rafael and English Cove

Porto Rafael is a small village north of Palau created in the 1960s by Rafael Neville and frequented over the years by numerous artists. Even today it retains a spirit and charm of yesteryear. From the small square, the center of the small town, there is a view of Cala Inglese, the “pool” of Porto Rafael, a picturesque beach of rather coarse pinkish sand characterized by the crystal clear sea and small rounded granite rocks.

Porto Liscia Beach

Porto Liscia beach, not far from Porto Puddu is located in the area of territory between the municipalities of Palau and Santa Teresa di Gallura, divided by the mouth of the river of the same name. At 8 kilometers long, it is the most extensive sandy beach on the northeastern coast of Sardinia, with a sandy shoreline of granitic nature and shallow seabed.

Porto Puddu Beach (Porto Pollo)

Located between Palau and Santa Teresa Gallura, Porto Pollo beach is characterized by its fine sandy shore, emerald-colored sea and small rocky coves sheltered from the wind. In the background is the green color of the Mediterranean scrubland typical of Sardinia. Porto Pollo beach is well known to windsurfers and sailors because of the constant presence of wind.
