Porto Conte Regional Park

The Park area extends north of Alghero, from the Calik lagoon inside the Laguna Blu Camping Village along the whole territory northward to Porto ferro. An area that extends from the sea to inland hills, the highest being Monte d’Olia with its 437 m from which there is an extraordinary panoramic viewpoint. The park’s boundaries include the important wildlife oasis of the State Forest “Le Prigionette” where several floristic and faunal species of special scientific interest grow, some of which are local exclusives. Several more or less challenging itineraries to discover the nature of Porto Conte Regional Park. Peaceful walks with children on foot or by bicycle along marked trails where you may encounter the white donkeys of Asinara or the little Cavallino della Giara horses. On the Calik Lagoon, an important staging and nesting area, bird watchers have the opportunity to observe herons, the beautiful pink flamingo and the rare sultan chicken.

Thirty-six kilometers of coastline from Cape Galera to Punta delle Gessiere is characterized by beautiful beaches, high cliffs and numerous underwater caves and coral-rich seabed. The area, which emerged about 70 million years ago, has been shaped by weathering, giving rise to characteristic shapes visible along the coast and originating submerged caves that are home to unique varieties of flora and fauna. On the rocky and sandy seabed and in the Posidonia oceanica meadow, various species find shelter and nourishment, including red coral, sponges, seahorses, brown groupers, moray eels, and deeper even lobsters and lobsters. During the summer, environmental education activities are carried out at places frequented by tourists aimed at raising awareness among adults and children about the knowledge and protection of the marine environment.
