The Coral Riviera and Beaches

The Coral Riviera owes its name to the important presence in its waters of red coral used for making beautiful jewelry. It stretches along the 90 km of Alghero’s coastline, interspersing long white sandy beaches, small coves and fascinating rock formations toward the Capo Caccia promontory, surrounded by Mediterranean maquis vegetation that often laps the sea.

The city beaches stretch along the 5 km of white sandy coastline that connects Alghero with the resort of Fertilia. The beaches of San Giovanni, Lido Novelli, and Maria Pia are easily accessible on foot or by bicycle and, thanks in part to their shallow waters, are particularly suitable for families with young children. Particularly fascinating is Maria Pia beach with its white sand dunes and centuries-old junipers.
