The island of Asinara is located in the north of Sardinia in the territory of Porto Torres and is characterized by a narrow, elongated shape with a very indented coastline. It was once known for the presence of the maximum-security prison especially in the 1970s-80s, and since 1997 the Asinara Protected Park has been established recognizing its floral and faunal importance. It is possible to visit the island by land or sea with licensed operators who organize different types of excursions by foot, bicycle, train or bus and even by off-road vehicle as well as by sailboat. During the excursions we will visit the island’s main sights, scenic spots and beaches, and there will be no shortage of opportunities to meet the island’s characteristic white donkeys.
