Worth visiting – Maritime heritage interpretation center of the island of Lošinj
Loger Lussignano “Nerezinac” – Outdoor museum!
The sailing ship was reconstructed on the model of the Lošinj logers of the late 19th century. It is moored on the Riva lošinjskih kapetana, in front of the Museum of Apoxyòmenos, to interpret the long and rich maritime tradition of the island of Lošinj in a contemporary, interesting and interactive way.The wooden motor boat named “Dražica” (after renovation renamed “Nerezinac”) is a valuable specimen of traditional shipbuilding, which since 2010 has appeared on the list of protected cultural heritage of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia. The exhibition consists of a part located on the shore, in front of the boat, a part located on the bow, and a part located inside the boat in the deck below deck (former warehouse – hold). The multimedia exhibition in the hold represents life on board through five characteristic thematic units: crew, food, cargo, sea routes, and finally the construction and maintenance of the boat.
Alongside the objective facts that are offered, the visitor is asked to imagine possible events and scenarios, since, except for general information about the type of the boat, the period of its construction and use, and the type of goods it was transported, there is very little data about the boat, and thus the history of the “Nerezinac” is almost completely unknown.
The shore and bow parts of the exhibit consist of an information panel with basic information about the boat and the part called the “workshop,” in which visitors can try their hand at some of the skills of traditional shipbuilding, boat maintenance, or on deck with seamanship skills or boat steering: caulking, sail patching, planing, scalloping, nailing, steam wood bending, maritime knots, deck washing, horn blowing, lifting visitors through the hoist, sail hoisting, and the like.
