Castelli Romani Wine Route

Land and Wine. A combination as fascinating as it is inseparable. The Castelli Romani Wine Route is an enveloping route, passing through vineyards and noble wine traditions, caressing bucolic landscapes, soft horizons. It traverses time, hiding hidden wonders of the most famous and ancient Roman archaeology between one vine and another.

Wine and Art. An ancient tradition, over thirty thousand years old, a true cult to Bacchus first, homage to the intense passion for the beautiful and the good later. “Making wine” is an act of love; it has accompanied the farmers of these gentle moors for centuries. Let yourself be transported on a journey through time, among the cellars of the artists of the land, well-known producers of DOC wines such as the famous Frascati, one of Rome’s most celebrated wines.

Art, Beauty and Nature. Not only a walk among the most fragrant vineyards of the soft Roman hills, the itinerary of the Castelli Romani Wine Route, crosses the Parco Regionale Dei Castelli Romani, among majestic Tuscolan Villas of the 17th century, gems of precious memories of an aristocratic time gone by.

Nature and Taste. The Castelli Romani Wine Route food and wine tour begins with the discovery of the enchanting vineyards, with the obligatory tasting of the best vintages of wine, and continues with the historical narration of the area, with an immersion in the taste and traditional dishes of the typical local Castelli cuisine. Don’t miss the local specialties offered by the many taverns that populate the area. Traditional, peasant Roman cuisine is delicious, rich in memory, speaks of its land in a true tale, to be touched, felt and savored, a unique and unmissable tale.

Ariccia, a quaint local village, where you can visit Palazzo Primoli, the striking Church of the Assumption, and breathe in the most genuine spirit of the beautiful region of Lazio. A must-take break here in Ariccia is at one of the most renowned osterias,Hostaria No. 1, to pamper yourself with the tastiest local dishes. For the first course on the menu, we highly recommend La Botticella (pasta dish inspired half by the classic Amatriciana and half by the mouthwatering Carbonara) and for the second course… of course the rich Abbacchio alla Scottadito!

Frascati, a wonderful town on the outskirts of Rome, rich in history, art and culture. Frascati is also home to the most famous and popular of the Roman Castles.

Frascati intera is the most incredible terrace with breathtaking panoramic views of Rome. From St. Peter’s Square, the alleys wind their way, with its many quaint little restaurants, the Fraschette, those that were once the typical Vinai, and where now you can not only taste, but also take home, excellent artisanal wine. Roman Castelli DOC wines range from white, red and rosé in many varieties; from frizzate to amabile. Typical products of this area, in addition to the excellent wines, are extra virgin olive oil, porchetta (roast suckling pig), Cavallino coppiette (pork), and the timeless pecorino romano (sheep’s milk cheese).

If you are a lover of greenery and nature then, you can walk to the cool woods of Mount Tuscolo, to get lost among trees, and discover ancient Roman mansions. Let yourself be transported by the unique beauty of the panorama as it sweeps toward the infinite horizon, breathtaking!
