Diving
Do you love diving into the depths of the Mediterranean Sea to discover hidden wonders? In front of the Ostia Antica Lido are sites perfect for diving and scuba diving enthusiasts.
Hidden and little-known places such as the Secche di Tor Paterno, a protected marine area that can only be visited via submarine, where it is possible to admire fascinating and unique marine species.
The Tor Paterno Shoals are like a real island under the sea, about 18 meters high (60 meters deep) surrounded by a vast sand desert. An underwater oasis where over the years animals have dug their burrows, changing the habitat and making it unique.
The waters in the area, which are quite murky because of the Tiber, leave room in this specific area for an incredible concentration of marine life. For example, it inhabits the Secche di Tor Paterno, the Poseidonia Marina, the Red Gorgonia, and the Alcionati, which are very rare in this part of the Mediterranean Sea. Moray eel, conger eel, mullet, and monkfish also inhabit this area. Also possible to observe dolphins in this area, and rare seabirds such as gannets and labians.
Guests of the Roma Capitol Camping Village can experience the thrill of scuba diving thanks to the center’s Really Scuba Diving, located inside the village! The diving center offers courses for all levels, equipment rental, and guided trips to the Secche di Tor Paterno Marine Protected Area, which can be reached in just 20 minutes by boat. Also a perfect activity for family travelers: while some explore the seabed, others can relax in the heart of Roman nature.
