TIME TRAVEL ON GARDA

FROM UNESCO STILTS TO SIGNATURE MANSIONS

Manerba del Garda and its surroundings are a veritable concentration of history and architectural wonders. Staying in this area allows you to immerse yourself in a millennia-old tale that combines the wilderness of the lake with traces of ancient civilizations.

Red Rocks and Magical Geology (Archaeology and Nature)

  • Rocca e del Sasso Reserve: An open-air museum where the remains of a medieval castle can be explored. Climbing up to the monumental cross on the summit, one is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the entire Lake Garda.

  • Civic Archaeological Museum: Located at the entrance to the Reserve, it holds valuable artifacts that tell the story of human settlement from the Bronze Age to the present day.

  • Lake Lucone (10 min): Located in Polpenazze del Garda, this fascinating archaeological site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is world famous for the perfectly preserved remains of an important prehistoric pile-dwelling village.

Traditions and Ancient Legends (Villages and Historic Houses)

  • Sirmione (30 min): An enchanting peninsula where you can admire the famous Scaliger Castle, which seems to float on the water, and the Grottoes of Catullus, the grandiose remains of a majestic Roman villa on the extreme tip of the promontory.

  • Gardone Riviera (25 min): Home to the famous Vittoriale degli Italiani, the incredible mansion-museum of Gabriele d’Annunzio with a real military ship set into the hillside. Nearby is the André Heller Botanical Garden, a Paradise of exotic species and art installations.

  • Limonaia La Malora in Gargnano (35 min): An unmissable stop along the western shore. Unlike other historic structures, this 16th-century lemon house is still productive and perfectly preserved. Walking among its stone and wooden terraces, you can discover the secrets of growing Garda citrus fruits and taste local products.
