La Gallura: Cinema and Mystery

Did you know that the magical land from the Disney movie “The Little Mermaid” (2023) is actually located in La Gallura? The production team chose the pristine coastline of northern Sardinia to turn reality into a fairy tale, making this land the true star of the film starring Halle Bailey.

Rena Majori Beach in Aglientu is the most iconic location: it is here that Ariel emerges from the water to rescue Prince Eric. Not far away, in Rena di Matteu, the scenes of the carriage ride along the coastal cliffs were filmed, while the ancient medieval village of Castelsardo was chosen to serve as the exterior of the prince’s majestic castle. Here’s a fun fact: the famous rock where the Little Mermaid sings doesn’t actually exist—it was placed there artificially in front of the beach just for the filming!

But La Gallura also hides secrets that are much older. The hills above Palau are home to the so-called “Energy Triangle, an area that, according to geomancy studies, rests on granite foundations capable of acting as magnetic conductors:

  • The Giants’ Tomb at Li Mizzani: Famous throughout the island for its supposed healing properties. The shape of its exedra would function like a parabolic antenna, channeling underground magnetic currents. Even today, visitors lie down on the stones to absorb the earth’s energy.

  • The site of San Giorgio a Monti Canu: Less well-known, it is considered a point of “masculine energy,” associated with mental clarity and spiritual strength.

This phenomenon is linked to specific technical factors: Gallura granite, which is rich in quartz, generates electricity when subjected to pressure (the piezoelectric effect), and the flow of underground water veins beneath Monti Canu charges the rocks above. Furthermore, the “bull’s head” shape of the Giants’ Tombs acts, in geomancy, as a veritable reservoir of vital energy.
